Let's face it - there are plenty of steel lap guitars listed on eBay, but when was the last time you saw something like this? At the estate sale where I found this, the seller told me that it belonged to his grandmother, and that back in the 1950s she would take this around to local night spots and entertain the regulars. The story makes sense, considering that her picks and slide are still in the little change purses from the period.
There are no strings on this guitar. When I plug in the amp, the tubes light up, the speaker hums and crackles when I turn the volume knobs. But as for the guitar, I assume the pickup pots will need work because the knobs do not want to budge.
According to the seller, this has been sitting in the garage for almost 50 years, during which time the exterior of the Geib case has suffered somewhat. But it doesn't appear that the elements have reached the interior, just the normal effects of time.
This piece is being sold as-is, since I have no way to test it out or fix it. Please ask any questions, and buyer pays $39 shipping in the 48 states.
