Silvertone Guitar

Up for auction is a very nice vintage Silvertone model 1488 3-pickup solid body electric guitar in cherry red. These guitars were made by Harmony for sale by Sears through their stores and catalog. My brother's notes say this guitar is from 1964. As far as I can tell from online research this guitar is very original. The guitar is in very good condition for its age. There are no major dings, scratches or paint chips. There are a couple of very small chips around one of the screw heads on the back as well as a chip about 1/8" diameter. There are some marks in the finish in the area between the vibrato and the bridge. The pickguard has two small cracks radiating from screw holes. The guitar features three DeArmond pickups that can be switched out individually for a variety of sounds. The neck is bolt-on design and is bound. The binding has yellowed a bit with age. The fingerboard is rosewood with pearl inlays. The neck has 20 frets and appear in good condition with just a little wear. The tuners look to be original. There is no case. I don't play but I did plug this piece into an amp and can confirm that it sounds pretty good. Shipping is $45 flat rate in the US. International shipping at actual cost. Oblinger, who passed away in 2008. My brother was a custom guitar
builder and repairman and was well known in the L.A. area. He started his
career at the famous Travis Bean Guitars where he worked from 1975 until the
company closed in 1979. While there he worked on guitars for Jerry Garcia, Bill
Wyman, Keith Richard, Rory Gallagher, Joe Perry and others. After Bean closed
he went to work at Schecter Guitar Research in Van Nuys, Ca. and was the Guitar
Shop Manager from 1980 until the shop was moved to Texas. While there he worked
alongside Tom Anderson building guitars for the likes of Pete Townsend and Mark
Knopfler. When Schecter was bought out and moved to Texas in 1984 he went over
to Tobias Guitars. After that he went out on his own building, repairing
and restoring guitars from his home shop. His client list included Jackson Browne, John
Fogarty, David Lindley, Steve Vai, Steve Lukather, Stephen Stills and many
others. We will be selling off much of his 30+ year collection of guitars and
parts including many rare and vintage pieces from Travis Bean, Fender, Gibson,
Mossman and others, so check back often for new stuff.
