SILVERTONE DANELECTRO GUITAR NEW. CORAL?
Today I found a large group of Danelectros and Silvertone guitars in one of the rooms of the "White House". That's building #4 in the "annex parade" behind the small storefront Karo calls "the place". There were four new guitars that I had never seen before. Karo claims to have known Nat Daniel and to have visited the "Dano" factory several times and made friends with several of the luthiers and other folks up there. In the mid, or late, 1970's (Karo can't remember), one of those friends dropped by to visit him at "the place". He ended up staying for about two weeks sleeping in the shop. During that week he kept pulling guitar parts out of his 1962 Oldsmobile. He had lost his job at the Dano factory a while back and they had paid him his last check in guitar bodies and parts. This is one of those guitars he assembled during this "sabbatical" at "Karo's place". He sold four or five of them while at the shop and then left several more with Karo as "friend's pay" for the accommodations.
This is the first one I'm selling. I am not making any claim as to what it is, should be, may be, or would like to be.
It is what it is.
The body certainly looks like the CORAL FIREFLY but the headstock is not like the others I have seen nor the catalog photos. It is very well made but does use hardware that just does not match the quality once seen from Dano. The lipstick pickups are here and it sounds great. I will guarantee that it plays but that's all. It has not been set up at all. Have a good luck at the photos here and you can see for yourself that it is a looker. I think it is safe to call it a bastard Danelectro/Silvertone.
But it is a good bastard.
Flat shipping charge of $45.00 to US lower 48. Everywhere else at actual cost. Email for quote before you bid. Thanks
ADDED INFORMATION:
I just received this new information from an ebay member who may be the King of Neptune when it comes to Danelectro guitars-
"Hi, The one on ebay you have listed is a coral body with a silvertone neck, the bridge and tailpiece are not dano the tuners on neck are not dano,.."
So, it is a bastard like Karo said. He claims to having a lot of personal knowledge when it comes to those.
And this seems to fit his story. It's not that I question his honesty but more of a moral skepticism I hold when it comes to him.
As he says about the difference to him between myth and reality-"a nod is as good as a wink to a blind horse".
This should make it worth a lot more since Coral Firefly seem so hard to get. I do have some more Dano bastards that I will be
listing later on.
