Sears Silvertone Danelectro vintage 1443 Bass Guitar
1966
You are bidding on an Silvertone electric bass guitar model 1443, solid body bass made by Danelectro and marketed by Sears under the Silvertone badge. It has a black finish with two Danelectro lipstick pickups. This is my own guitar I bought used from a fellow band member in 1970. I used and played it in a band. It appears to have been painted black at one time, I don't remember painting it myself. All the parts are in tact and the bass works very well. The top string tuner appears to be slightly larger than the rest, see photo. I don't know if it was made this way. All the photo's were taken of the actual Bass.
Picture #4 appears to show a 6608 serial number on the back of the tone control. All the controls show the same number. This dual pick-up is more rare than the single pickup models. The bass is in great condition for being a vintage 40 plus years old The neck is straight .The neck is the bolt on style similar to the Fender bass guitars with two steel adjustment rods and 22 frets. The electronics all work correctly. Everything is original. It is missing the chrome where the strings rest on the body. This is a used bass guitar and has nicks and playing wear on the neck and body. But it works very well and is in overall good condition . This guitar does not come with a case only what you see. This may be a good second guitar and can be reconditioned. Excerpts from an article by C.W. Fisher, son of Joe Fisher: National Headquarters - Sears, Roebuck and Company - Homan & Arthington, Chicago, Illinois. 1963 - Joe Fisher, 38, was a buyer for musical instruments at Sears. Nathan Daniel, 51, According to Nat, bodies don't matter in an electric guitar (in direct opposition to the ideas of Les Paul, who believed a fine electric guitar should be made of fine woods and weigh more than a sack of fine potatoes). Nat put all his attention into the neck, and here no expense was spared. His pickups were odd then and now, not because of the lipstick tubes, but because he wired them in series. This, they say, is what produced the unique Dano/Silvertone sound now proudly owned by collectors and still played by some of the world's finest guitar players.
