This is a vintage 1964 Kay Vanguard
with 2 chrome DeArmond pickups
in RARE black tuxedo finish!
It has 2 volume and 2 tone controls
and a 3 way toggle switch.
The pots are clean and function as intended
and the toggle toggles nicely.
No scratchy sounds!
Pots are CTS and dated 1964
Pickups are dated May of 1964
All original parts down to the last screw.
Original tuners are very clean and hold
tune without constant slip or play.
All chrome is clean with little to no pitting
and no rust at all.
All screw slots are standard flat head
with no stripped slots and no rust.
Has original wooden adjustable bridge
which is set for nice action with room
to raise or lower to suit your needs.
This Kay has a very nice original finish
as you can see in the pics.
The color is very black and shows
only minimal wear with few small minor nicks around the edges.
The neck finish is smooth like glass
and has only a few nicks around
the headstock.
The pickguard is free of cracks
and is very clean.
It has no pick wear or fading and all
screws are clean and rust free.
The bridge cover is still on the guitar!
Neck is straight and the action is fine.
It's currently set up with a fresh set of tens.
Frets are level and play without dead spots.
This one has full Med-Jumbo type frets
that have signs of having been used
for playing slide.
There are string marks on the higher
frets...not deep grooves.
They should buff out with steel wool
or could be crowned since the frets
are tall and have tons of life left.
The playability isn't effected.
The guitar is great for rhythm
and you can play lead without issue
with bending strings.
The bends feel sluggish after the
12th fret but bend without loss of note.
Overall, a very clean and great
sounding vintage Kay Vanguard
in rare black color.
