1958 Silvertone (Danelectro) 1303/U2 Electric Guitar
This guitar has been in my possession since the early-80s when my father brought it home to me (I was taking guitar lessons at the time). I stop taking lessons and have carted this around with me all these years. We're cleaning up and have decided to auction this off. I took this to the local music shop and had it checked; it functions perfectly and sounds very nice. Ebay is limiting the number of pictures to 12 here, but I have other pics if you want to see more. Tried to post enough pics to give a good look at the condition of this instrument (I think it's great condition for being 52 years old).
I'm not a guitar guy, but here's what I know (and don't know):
1- Based on some online research, I've found that this is a 1958 Silvertone (Danelectro) model 1303 / U2. (There is one currently on vintagesilvertones.com and another that completed auction here on Ebay on August 15).
2- It works, it was plugged into an amp two days ago and sounded great.
3- The first string is missing. I have no idea if the strings on this are what came with it back in 1958 or not, but I have not personally ever had them replaced.
4- The round back panel that closes up the electronics is missing; no idea when, were or why it became missing, but I cannot find it.
5- There are a few chips and scratches on it, of course, but it's generally pretty clean. The worst spot is some on some of the silver trim on the side (check the pics). (about a 1/2" dinger there).
6- The neck looks straight and solid, no cracks, etc. (again, check the pics). The frets are all in place; the knobs, switch, etc. work; nothing loose or missing (except that back panel).
7- Not sure on the case, when my father brought this home to me it was in this case, no idea if it's the original case or replacement, but the guitar fits in it perfectly. The case is functional, but not in the greatest of shape (has some tape on it one area), but the latches all work, the handle is solid. The flap for the internal storage comparement is torn off (it's there, but is detached).
Here's what I will and will not do:
1- I'm not a guitar guy, so I don't intend to disassemble this for shipping (the case is going with it anyway). Please don't ask me to disassembly this; it's simply not something I'm confortable in doing.
2- I will package this very carefully; I intend to put some styrofoam pieces in the case to keep the guitar stable as well putting it in sturdy packaging, etc. Once the auction has ended, we can discuss whether or not to insure and investigate the cost of doing so.
3- I prefer to ship US ONLY, but if questioned will investigate shipping international. I will advise of the cost of doing this. (Excluding: Africa, Russian Federation, Germany, Italy, Ukraine)
4- Shipping will happen only after PayPal has indicated that it is safe to ship.
Check my feedback, it's perfect. Every transaction I've completed, both buying and selling, has worked the way it is suppose to work. If there are any questions or issues after the sale, please contact me so that we can work thru those things. I trust that, on Ebay, I'll get a fair price from an honest buyer and will in turn do the right things on my end.
This is a really cool thing to own, but I'm not a guitar guy, can't see the need for me to keep hanging on to it and hopefully somebody who is a guitar guy (or girl) can get some enjoyment out of this.
Side note: I have an amp for this also. Have not been able to find any information on it. It was brought home with the guitar; not sure if was something originally purchased with the guitar or purchased separately at another time. It's labeled as 10BXL on the front, has two inputs, volume and tone controls, black case, gray/black facing. Can't find a brand name on it. It has a short in or blown speaker, so I'm not messing with a listing on it, but if somebody knows something about this or is interested in it, let me know.. To be clear -- THIS AUCTION IS FOR THE GUITAR ONLY at this time.
Thanks,
Brian (MrBIPii)
