Here is a Danelectro U-2 model from 1956 with the early and rare "Peanut" body style in the even more rare red-with-black sides finish option. This guitar was probably originally branded Silvertone but no trace of the logo is visible. The tuners have been changed to basic model 3 on a plate Klusons without covers and whoever did it used screws that were a little too big and split the headstock. It's been reglued and it looks like it's been that way for a long time. One of the tuner ferrules is not original...see pics. other than that repair, which is ugly but solid, the guitar is all original and in remarkable shape. Lots of honest wear but that only adds to the vibe...original pickups, electronics, knobs, pots, switch, nut, and bridge assembly. The jackplate has been replaced with a metal one. Pots read 137626 or 26th week of 1956. Like a lot of these ingeniously cheap Dano guitars, it has aged to a beautiful glowing patina. The neck is worn smooth and plays perfectly and the tone is great. The extra special thing about this 2 pickup model is the pickups are wired so they add up in the middle position with reduced noise. It's a big advantage over the single pickup ones...plus this early body style has a center block of wood that adds sustain. In the world of Danelectro, this is the one to have and the red finish...similar to Fender's Dakota red...gives it real visual appeal. It will ship in a non original hard case that fits well. All latches work but the handle has been replaced with wire. These don't come up too often so grab this one while you can!
